The Problem
Temperature deviations and data gaps are some of the most common issues occurring when reefer containers are in transit. Such deviations may indicate a potential damage in the cargo.
There are various factors that can explain why the temperature inside the container is out of the expected thresholds, and one of them are off-power situations.
Off-power durations - periods of time when the container is not plugged to a power source - are a common reason of temperature deviations. In those situations the ambient (outside) temperature can influence the deviations.
The Solution
Providing visibility to the occurrence and length of off-power and the temperature outside provide context to understanding the severity of the temperature deviations.
Process and Problem Definition
The processs to provide Captain Peter’s customers with better context around their perishable goods while being transported in reefer containers, required triangulation of data during the discovery and design stages to ensure the provided solution is not only desirable, but also feasible as, opposed to other UX projects, development in the fields of shipping and logistcs is heavily dependent on other systems and the abilities of the provided physical equipment. (containers, sensoes, etc.)
